Hot New Games For 2008…

Posted on Jun 12, 2008 06:53:56 PM

The E3 Media & Business Summit, the video-game industry’s biggest North American
event, is two months away. While a few companies – including Vivendi and
Activision – have bailed out of this year’s show, most game publishers are
planning their parties and getting their booths ready.

And some of the biggest companies have taken the time to give reporters previews
of what they have in store.

The major Xbox 360 titles for the 2008 holiday season:

  • Fable 2
  • Gears of War 2
  • Ninja Gaiden II
  • Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise

The highlight of Microsoft’s Gamer’s Day 2008 was the long-awaited third
instalment of a series that began 10 years ago on the Nintendo 64.
Rare’s Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts marks the return of one of gaming’s more
amusing animal combos: Banjo is a big, dopey bear that can fly
(or at least glide) with help from Kazooie, a high-strung bird.
The 360 has been starved for more lighthearted fun, and Microsoft is couting on
Rare, which it acquired in 2002, to recapture the charm of its earlier
B-K games.

The major Sony titles for the 2008 holiday season:

  • Resistance 2
  • Killzone 2

A second MotorStorm racer coming to the Playstation 3.
PS3 editions of SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals and Buzz! Quiz TV.

The lineup of downloadable games from Sony’s Playstation Network:

Elefunk, a Lemmings-like puzzle game in which you have to
build structures that are strong enough to survive marching pachyderms.

PixelJunk Eden is an adventure through an oversized, psychedelic garden.

Siren: Blood Curse is PSN’s first attempt at an episodic adventure,
scheduled to be delivered in 12 instalments.

The major Sega titles for the 2008 holiday season:

Sonic Unleashed takes the spiny speedster back to his roots, emphasising
pure velocity, while BioWare’s intriguing Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood
puts him at the centre of a role-playing game.

The house of Sonic has made a bigger splash by forming a partnership with one of
Japan’s hottest studios.

The developers at Platinum Games have some pretty
impressive credits, including:

  • Okami
  • Resident Evil
  • Devil May Cry
  • Viewtiful Joe
  • Madworld: a witches-versus-angels actionfest called Bayonetta;
  • Infinite Line:an outer space RPG

Livin’ on the edge

Electronic Arts has a bunch of gun games in its arsenal, including:

  • Battlefield
  • Bad Company
  • Battlefield Heroes
  • Left 4 Dead

But the most intriguing title:
in its future has to be Mirror’s Edge, from Battlefield creators DICE. Sort of a
first-person shooter without the shooting, it’s inspired by parkour, the urban
running-and-climbing sport popularized in France. (Think the opening scene of
the 2006 movie Casino Royale.)

EA is also bringing skateboarding to the Wii with Skate It, which can be
controlled with the Wii remote or with Nintendo’s new Wii Fit balance board. And
it’s hoping to capitalize on the social gaming trend with Hasbro Family Game
Night, which features classic and enhanced versions of Battleship, Yahtzee,
Connect Four, Sorry! and Boggle.

Konami has one of the year’s biggest games, Metal Gear Solid 4, coming in June,
so its E3 lineup will focus on new chapters of its other big franchises:

  • Dance Dance Revolution
  • Silent Hill
  • Castlevania.

Konami specialized in music long before Guitar Hero, it can’t really be accused
of bandwagon-jumping with its newest rhythm game, Rock Revolution.
This one is built around the most realistic drum peripheral available,
according to the company, although guitar and bass can play along, too.

Introduction To The Meek Geek Video Game Blog…

Video Gamers Oasis

Hello there! My name is Jeremy. As you might have guessed, I’m nuts about Video Games. I’ll never forget the very first video game(s) I was exposed to. My brother-in-law’s PONG game from the late 70′s intrigued me; with the little white rectangles bouncing the little white blip to each other across the screen. At that time, the sound effects came from the Game Console itself, NOT from the TV. It was extremely stripped down by today’s standards, but back then, I played it with the same enthusiasm that the young man did playing PONG in that Diet Pepsi Commercial!

In the early 80′s my sister and brother-in-law bought an early Atari. It was LOADS of fun! It had a Race Car game, a Chess Game (which my brother-in-law loved to play), Space Invaders, and of course, PacMan. Each Video Game Cartridge was intoxicatingly addictave, but especially Space Invaders and PacMan. I’ll never forget how my Sister introduced Space Invaders to me. She explained I played the little green turrets on the ground, and I had to shoot the “monsters” that kept coming closer and closer. From time to time, a UFO would hover over and give me extra points if I was skillful enough to bullseye it.
PacMan was the most fun, with it’s delightful simplicity that is timeless to this day! I’ll never forget how it compared with the Arcade version — the PacMan would go eh-eh-eh-eh! in the Atari Console, and the PacMan in the Arcade game would go waka-waka-waka-waka! I loved out-maneuvering those nasty rainbow coloured ghosts, while hating being devoured. Getting major payback by eating the Power Pellot was a highlight of the game.

Later on in the 80′s my father introduced me to The Colecovision, truly a step above Atari in the Video Game System Hierarchy. I remember seeing it played for the first time by him, he was playing Space Fury – with the nasty green cyclopian alien commander taunting him. The variety and complexity of the games made the hours melt away.
I finally got on the bandwagon and purchased a Nintendo Entertainment System with my savings and allowance. Boy! Did that Game System blow me away! Never before did I feel so bedazzled by a moustached Italian Plumber stomping on evil mushroom creatures, ferocious Turtle Soldiers, taking Enhancing Power-Ups and Exploring Pipes. Super Mario Bros. was my first Nintendo Game, and I was love struck at first play!
Of course, there were countless other games I played on the NES, as well as many other different Consoles including Sega, and I continued to play Arcade games, as well to play games on my PC. They became more and more sophisticated as time went on.
Video Games in it’s many Genres has the same power that a good book, comic book, movie or even music album has — to whisk you away to another realm. A realm of the imagination. A realm where the improbable is possible, and the impossible is probable. A realm where YOU are the hero, and it’s YOUR job to save the Princess.
That’s one of the strongest reasons why I love to play Video Games. Everyone has their passion. To me, Video Games, are one of my strongest ones. I love to play Video Games, learn more about them and I love to talk about Video Games.
That’s what I would like to do at this Blog. I would like this Blog to be a center for great Gaming Minds to meet to share interests, tips, tricks and ideas.

Welcome to my Blog. I hope you find the possibilities as exciting as I do!
