The PSP Go, a revamped version of Sony’s PlayStation
Portable, ditches game discs in favour of digital downloads
via the online PlayStation Store.

Physically, it’s a sexy device. The screen slides up to reveal
the familiar controls, buttons and an improved analog thumbstick,
and the guts house 16 GB of storage for games, music, videos
and photos.
Although the narrower body can cause some hand cramping after
long bouts of play, it makes the standard PSP look obese.
That said, the PSP Go will not be a hit with everyone. Some will love
its futuristic sexiness and the way it can store a dozen or more games
in its built in memory, rather than on those little plastic Universal
Media Discs.
But others will be turned off by the price (the Go is $249.99, compared
to $169.99 for the standard PSP), and the PSP Go’s lack of a UMD drive
is both a boon and a bane — it can’t play existing disc-based PSP
games, which means gamers looking to upgrade will have to either
abandon their libraries or repurchase games in the digital format, neither
of which is appealing.
Sony seems to be hoping the PSP Go will become the iPod Touch of gaming devices,
which is a tad ironic considering the iPod Touch ($299.99 for the 32 GB model) is
itself a capable handheld gaming platform, and a vastly superior media player
and multipurpose device. And in Canada, the PlayStation Store, unlike the
iTunes Store, doesn’t currently offer movies or TV shows for download.

The PSP Go (styled PSPgo or PSP go, is a version of the
PlayStation Portable handheld video game console manufactured by Sony.
It was released on October 1, 2009 in American and European territories
and is scheduled for release on November 1 in Japan.

Popular Tonight Show Host, Jay Leno has contributed his
Voice to Gran Turismo for PSP.
It was revealed yesterday in PlayStation Network’s
digital magazine QORE™ that Jay Leno lent his voice
to Gran Turismo PSP. In addition to being a famous
comedian and late night talk show host, Leno is also
known for his passion for automobiles and for having
a massive collection of classic and modern cars,
many of which he features on his website, Jay Leno’s
Garage (Jay Leno’s Garage). In the interview, filmed
within his giant garage that houses his collection,
Leno discussed his impression of the Gran Turismo
games and involvement with Gran Turismo PSP. The
interview also includes footage of Leno in the
recording studio, doing lines for Gran Turismo PSP,
including the Challenge Mode tutorials. Gran Tusrismo
fans will know that this is not Leno’s first
involvement with Gran Turismo, however. His infamous
“Tank Car,” a custom car built using and M47 Patton
tank engine, was featured in Gran Turismo 4 for
PlayStation 2 as playable vehicle.

Anyone who has picked up the latest Guitar Hero 5 may have
noticed Kurt Cobain’s likeness making an appearance, along
with two Nirvana songs “Lithium” and “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
However a post by blogger Everett True highlighted that the
Cobain avatar can be used to play any number of songs in the
game, some of which put the late singer in some rather
uncharacteristic poses, with some even seeing him rapping.
Now, Cobain’s widow Courtney Love has apparently spoken out
against the use of the singer’s image in the game on Twitter.
A 70-post rant on the feed of user courtneylover79
(which has been purporting to be that of Love for months)
claims, “FOR THE RECORD I DID NOT APPROVE KURTS AVATAR FOR GUYITARHERO5.”
It adds thatshe loathes the game and finds it “odious,”
as well as suggesting that Cobain would “despise this game” and his
representation in it. This comes contrary to reports that Love, former
bandmate Dave Grohl, and Universal publishing all signed off on the deal
with Activision.
The tirade of posts, some of which verge on nonsensical, also threatens
legal action against Activision. She also mentions that she “saw a piece
of the [Cobain] avatar on the nightly news I actually had to vomit.”
Blogger Everett True has since responded to Love’s Twitter musings,
True said he has it “on good authority” that Love “owns the rights to
Kurt’s image and likeness” and that her action to sue was “odd.”
Activision has since responded to the claims, stating
that Cobain’s estate, and specifically Courtney Love, did in fact sign
off on having the late artist appear in Guitar Hero 5. “Guitar Hero
secured the necessary licensing rights from the Cobain estate in a
written agreement signed by Courtney Love to use Kurt Cobain’s
likeness as a fully playable character in Guitar Hero 5,” the
publisher said in a statement.
